I Watched as It Unfolded
I Watched as It Unfolded is a series of oil paintings exploring fragmented narratives and the quiet tension of observation. The three works – Spotted, Meanwhile, and Elsewhere – function like cinematic cuts: separate moments that may be occurring simultaneously.
The theme of pursuit runs through the series, reflecting my ongoing interest in surveillance, distance, and the influence of film – especially Hitchcock’s Rear Window. Perspective and framing are vital; each figure looks inward, further into the painting, blurring the boundary between image and viewer. The gaze is never returned, placing the viewer in a complicit yet uncertain role.
